Finding a therapist can be a long and uncertain process, however, I believe taking the time to find the right fit is an essential component of a positive and therapeutic relationship. I try to create a warm and inviting environment in which we can explore any issues or distress that is present in your life and decide if we can work together to help you find some relief.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate, having earned my master’s from the International Disaster Psychology program at the Graduate School of Professional Psychology within the University of Denver. I was trained in trauma psychology and global mental health with an emphasis on systems and cultural influences. From this training and previous work with children, adults, and families, I believe that human connection and relationships are vital to emotional wellbeing and have the capacity to be an incredible support system. I see relationships as influenced by systems, cultures, individual personalities and attachment styles. And yet, relationships are where some of our most ingrained and problematic patterns can emerge. I am passionate about exploring these patterns with respect and vulnerability in order to move towards more positive intimacy, communication, and long-lasting change.
In therapy, I work from a client-centered lens, meaning that I believe you are the expert on your own experience. I also believe that most problematic patterns begin as helpful coping tools that, later in life, can become roadblocks and create problems in living. I use authenticity, warmth and curiosity to help you notice these themes, patterns and past experiences that are getting in the way of living and relating. I utilize relational psychodynamic, experiential and Emotionally Focused Therapy techniques while creating a therapeutic relationship that feels collaborative and safe enough to take risks and be open. From this secure base, we can work together to find techniques, tools and the emotional space that can begin to heal and work through these issues to create positive change.
Meriwether is available to see clients Monday and Tuesdays.
