Meet Anastacia Sams
she/her/hers
M.A., LMFT, LPC

I’m Ana and I”m the internship coordinator for ICC. I work with all of our interns through supervision, group supervision and training. We have a robust program that guides interns through working with couples, individuals and families and helps them to grow as a therapist.
I practice supervision from a developmental, postmodern, anti-racist, culturally responsive lens. As a supervisor, one of my core objectives is to help supervisees understand and be aware of the intersectionality involved in their clients’ social location as well as their own, emphasizing how the latter plays a significant role in the client system as well as in the therapeutic process. I embrace the notion of therapists as “wounded healers,” which includes exploring with my supervisees how to work through their personal vulnerabilities in the context of their responsibilities to their clients, encouraging awareness of self in the room, and supporting growth in how to use self-of-the-therapist to inform therapeutic work.

In my free time, you can catch me on the tennis courts soaking up the summer in Chicago, curling up with a good book and a pot of tea, traveling, and spending quality time with my loved ones.
